Liver Transplantation in Patients with Cirrhosis and Severe Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF)

Cirrhosis is a disease that causes scar tissue to form in the liver. ACLF is a chronic liver disease that causes liver failure. Research is needed to better understand how people respond to liver transplantation with the combination of these conditions. The information we learn will help us improve the care of people with Cirrhosis and Severe Acute-on-Chronic liver disease.

Volunteers: Volunteers with special conditions
Location: In Person
Inclusion Criteria
- Ages 18 years and older
- Diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and/or hospitalized for acute decompensation of liver cirrhosis
- Patients listed for liver transplant with decompensated cirrhosis without ACLF-2 or 3 at the time of waiting list
- Patients listed for liver transplant with ACLF-2 or 3 at the time of listing or developing ACLF-2 or 3 while on the waiting list
- Patients having ACLF-2 or 3 are assessed for being included on the waiting list but are not listed for liver transplant
Exclusion Criteria
- Acute liver failure without cirrhosis
- Patient is listed for another transplant that is not liver or liver-kidney
- Patient with past liver transplant
- Patient with another known disease(s) that could impact Cirrhosis and Severe Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF)
- Pregnant
