Radiofrequency Ablation for People with Sacroiliac Joint Pain

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a way to help people with lower back pain. The pain is caused by swelling or arthritis in the sacroiliac joints. This is where the lower spine and pelvis connect in a persons back. Research is needed to compare 2 types of RFA electrodes (an object that allows electricity to enter and leave a persons body safely). We want to learn which electrode works best in reducing joint pain. The information we gain may aid future patients.

Who can participate?
Gender: All genders
Age: Over 18 years old
Volunteers: Volunteers with special conditions
Location: In Person
Inclusion Criteria
- Ages 18 to 90 years old
- Lower back pain for at least 3 months
- Received general medical help for low back pain
- Have a positive response to sacroiliac joint injections or nerve blocks
- Fluent in English
Exclusion Criteria
- History of fusion of the sacroiliac joint
- History of RFA of the sacroiliac joint
- History of osteoarthritis of the hips that causes symptoms or pain
- Active lumbar radicular pain, such as sciatica (pain that runs down one or both legs from the lower back)
- Widespread pain disorders like fibromyalgia
