Cuffless Blood Pressure Study in Patients with Cardiovascular Conditions

This study aims to test bioimpedance technology to measure blood pressure in patients. Normally people measure their blood pressure with an inflatable cuff on their arm. Bioimpedance technology involves placing sensors in the skin for non invasive recordings. People in this study will wear this new device at the Heart Failure Clinic at the University of Utah Medical Center. These will help us get more measurements to see if the technology works. The study session will last about 30 minutes.

   Location: In Person

Inclusion Criteria

  • Ages 18 to 80 years old
  • Group 1: Diagnosed with heart disease and does not have a left ventricular (one of the four chambers of the heart) assist device
  • Group 2: Diagnosed with heart disease and have an implanted left ventricular (one of the four chambers of the heart) assist device
  • Group 3: Patient admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and has an existing peripheral arterial catheter (a small, short plastic tube that is placed under the skin into the arm or leg of an artery)
  • Able to attend in person at a study clinic

Exclusion Criteria

  • A cognitive impairment (trouble remembering, learning new things, focusing, or making decisions for everyday life) that prevents participation
